Synopsis
Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. This film offers us a profound insight into the life of Leonard Cohen and why he is an incredibly revered songwriter. A year to the day after his passing, some of the world’s most beloved performers gathered in his hometown Montreal to pay tribute to their hero. Backed by a full orchestra, Leonard’s band, and a star-studded line-up including Sting, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Lana del Rey, The Lumineers, Damien Rice, Patrick Watson, Adam Cohen, and Courtney Love, performed some of Leonard’s most exalted songs to a spellbound audience. The film includes rare footage of Leonard himself talking -- candidly, eloquently, and wittily, as always -- about his literary, musical, and spiritual experience, culminating in his phenomenal return to the stage at the end of his life. Commentary by both Adam Cohen and Lorca Cohen enhance our understanding of Leonard as a person, and the presence of Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Peter Gabriel, Chris Martin, and Celine Dion deepens our appreciation of his huge influence on the history of music.
